Lucy Elizabeth Dacus was born May 2, 1995, in Norfolk, Virginia. She was adopted as a child and raised in Mechanicsville, Virginia, a suburb of Richmond. She is of both Uzbek and Irish heritage. Her adoptive mother is a professional pianist and music instructor, while her father is a graphic designer. She also has a sibling who is adopted.
