Professional Career: – Alhassan ran for office in 2015 on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC). Darius Ishaku, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, defeated her. She was declared winner of the April 2015 Taraba state governor’s race election in November 2015, becoming Nigeria’s first female governor. The Appeal Court later overturned this decision, ruling that the APC lacked jurisdiction over the PDP primaries.
She resigned from her federal position and defected to the UDP after the ruling party APC barred her from running for Governor. After other candidate stepped down, she was unanimously declared the UDP candidate for Taraba State’s gubernatorial election in March 2019. She later announced her return to the PDP following the governorship election, which has been won by Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party as governor of Taraba State.
