Her birthplace is Norman, Oklahoma. A.K. Kotb is Hoda Kotb’s father, and Samaha Kotb is her mother. Her father was a fossil energy specialist who died at the age of 51, and her mother, Samaha Kotb, works at the Library of Congress. She is the Kotb family’s middle child, with a brother named Adel and a sister named Hala. After finishing her high school coursework, Hoda graduated from Fort Hunt High School in 1982. She then enrolled at Virginia Tech to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism.  Kotb was the keynote speaker at her alma mater’s 2008 commencement ceremony, and she used Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” as background music throughout her speech. Hoda Kotb began her professional journalism career in 1986 as a news assistant for CBS News. She later worked as a general assignment newsreader for Birmingham, Alabama’s WQAD-TV.  She began her career as a weekend anchor and reporter at WXVT-TV in Vermont before moving on to WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Florida, where she is now an anchor and reporter.  From 1992 to 1998, Kotb worked as a reporter and anchor for WWL-TV, a television station in New Orleans, Louisiana. She began working for NBC the next year, first as a national correspondent, and has remained with the network until this day.
