Early Life: – Mervin and Toini Norman raised Norman in Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia. His mother was the daughter of a carpenter from Finland, while his father was an electrical engineer. He grew up playing rugby and cricket and dreaming of being a professional surfer.
Toini, Norman’s mother, who had a single-digit handicap, taught him to golf and let him caddie for her at Brisbane’s Virginia Golf Club. Norman improved from a 27 handicap to a scratch handicap in roughly eighteen months.
