Charlie Wilson’s career began on an unusual note. What began as jam sessions in neighborhood garages resulted in the formation of a band, the Greenwood Archer and Pine Street Band, in 1970, which included the Wilson brothers. The band subsequently became known as GAP (later Gap) Band. Charlie Wilson, along with his brothers, defined and popularised a unique brand of bouncy funk music from the start. When Wilson took over as the main vocalist for the band in 1973, the band’s fortunes changed. Leon Russell, a revolutionary country rock artist, spotted it and enlisted Gap as his backup band.
